From the "Why Bother" Department

Several news sources are reporting this morning that a song by the cleverly-named Will.i.am will be played on Mars today at 1 pm PST (see, e.g., here). Good publicity for the rapper? Sure. Headlines for NASA? Apparently. But, really, what's the point? To show that the Mars Rover has a good audio system?

They can blast all the music they want on Mars, but it's only going to be heard here on earth.
