Long Wait Nearly Over
here) reports that the first of three-volumes of Mark Twain's autobiography will be published this fall. Twain left instructions that it should not be published until 100 years after his death, and this is the year. It requires a tremendous belief in one's own legacy, I suppose, to believe that people a century after one's death would remain interested to read one's autobiography; but in Twain's case, of course, that self-belief was well justified. I'll be eagerly awaiting each volume.
