Recalibrating

In yesterday's Texas gubenatorial primary, incumbent Rick Perry handily dismissed a challenge from Senator Kaye Bailey Hutchinson, who was leading in the polls just a few months ago. Today, The Guardian (here) used this headline to describe the election: "Republican rightwing activitists help secure Texas for Rick Perry: Moderate Republicans face being displaced by candidates baced by the Tea Party and other grassroots rightwingers." I thought Hutchinson was rightwing? Who knew she was a "Moderate Republican"?

I'm a bit concerned that if Texas Republicans drift much further to the right, they'll find themselves on the left.
